Our October chamber concert promises to be very interesting as Barbora Valečková, a violinist with the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra, is joined by the Orchestra's current Chief Conductor Robert Kružík, who on this occasion plays a somewhat different role as cellist. Our two "local" musicians are joined by Stanislav Bogunia, the acclaimed pianist, conductor and highly respected teacher at the Prague Academy of Performing Arts' Faculty of Music in a programme of music by the Czech-origin composers Antonín Dvořák, Erich Korngold and Váša Příhoda.
Barbora Valečková has been playing in our Orchestra since last year, and her professional career has taken her through a whole series of important successful performances and competitions, including the Madame Bauše Ruys Award for the Academy of Performing Arts' best student. She has performed as soloist with a number of Czech orchestras including the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra and the Olomouc-based Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra, and she successfully auditioned for the Vienna State Opera where she has been a violinist since January 2014, also playing with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
Associate Professor Stanislav Bogunia, considered one of the most eminent exponents of the Czech piano school, has worked for many years as a piano accompanist, chamber musician, choral director and conductor with, among others, the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra, the Ostrava-based Janáček Philharmonic, the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Czech Radio Choir, and has also performed around the world from South America to Japan.
The Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic's Chief Conductor Robert Kružík surely needs no introduction. A graduate of the Brno Conservatoire and the Prague Academy of Performing Arts in both conducting and cello, he has added to his skills and experience through many masterclasses, and tonight our Chief Conductor will further demonstrate his mastery, this time as a solo instrumentalist.
