The final concert in our chamber cycle welcomes the outstanding mezzo-soprano Markéta Cukrová and the top-ranking pianist Miroslav Sekera in a Classical period programme featuring mostly songs by Mozart and Haydn.

Markéta Cukrová, a unique artist on the Czech vocal music scene, has won many artistic accolades for her exceptional performing versatility, perfectly honed technique and extraordinary sense of musical expression and style, making her in great demand as a singer of music stretching from the medieval period up to the 20th century. A frequent guest performer with groups both here and in the rest of Europe, she features regularly on Czech TV and radio, has made recordings for Polish, French and Italian radio, and has given solo performances not only in Europe, but in Japan, Russia, Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia and the US.

Miroslav Sekera, winner of the Johannes Brahms Competition in Pörtschach, Austria, in 2002, already had a number of previous important competition wins to his credit both in this country and abroad, such as First Prize in the Chopin Competition in Mariánské Lázně, First Prize in the Prague Academy of Performing Arts' Music Faculty Competition (Grant from Yamaha), Second Prize in the Gaillard international competition in France, and a Salon de Virtuosi music society prize in New York. He has been playing the piano since the age of three, and his exceptional talent was spotted by the excellent piano teacher Professor Zdena Janžurová. He also took up the violin, and his proficiency on both instruments led to him being cast as the young Mozart in Miloš Forman's Oscar-winning film Amadeus. He has played as a soloist and chamber musician at many top venues around the world including the Konzerthaus and the Musikverein in Vienna, the Kennedy Center in Washington, and the Opera City Concert Hall in Tokyo.
