When Štefan Margita, the singing legend with an incredibly rich artistic career built in the world’s most prestigious opera theatres, kindly accepted the Orchestra’s invitation to perform as the star of our Subscription C series concert in March, we knew he would need no lengthy introduction.
An alumnus of the Košice Conservatoire, he has projected his powerful tenor voice on opera stages such as those in San Francisco, Milan, Paris and New York, garnering enthusiastic ovations from packed concert halls the world over. Previously a soloist with the National Theatre Opera, the Volksoper in Vienna and the State Opera in Prague, he has performed for the past 20 years and more as a world-renowned freelancer and is repeatedly invited as guest performer to Chicago and to the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
Tonight Štefan Margita joins the Orchestra under conductor Jan Kučera in a varied pogramme of operatic arias, songs from the musicals and pop hits. In the second half, we hear his own special versions of folk songs from Moravia and Slovakia in a not-to-be-missed experience!
