Our guest star tonight surely needs no lengthy introduction: he is Pavel Šporcl, one of the most outstanding contemporary Czech musicians and a violinist of truly world renown.
Pavel Šporcl, carrying on the great tradition of Czech violinists, has enjoyed great success at the world's leading venues for his mastery and unconventional performing style, with a phenomenally wide repertoire that appeals to all generations. Charismatic, non-conformist, and tireless in his aim of promoting and bringing classical music to the wider public, he also embraces other musical genres, and is known in particular for his love for the art of gypsy violin virtuosos and for musicals.
Tonight’s concert at the Zlín Congress Centre stars Pavel Šporcl in his element, moving between musical styles and breaking down the boundaries between them, with the first half featuring his virtuoso performance of mostly classical music, followed by the second half of well known tunes from the musicals arranged by Randy Waldman, the arranger and pianist of Barbra Streisand. These include hits from Les Misérables, Fiddler on the Roof, Mary Poppins, The Phantom of the Opera and more, all under the baton of conductor Chuhei Iwasaki.
