Conducting Workshop in Zlín


From 20th to 28th July 2014 the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic wll be hosting the International Conducting Workshop and Festival organised by its artistic director Benjamin Loeb, and led this year by teachers and conductors such as Larry Rachleff (Rice University and Rhode Island Philharmonic) and Donald Schleicher (University of Illinois). In addition to receiving intensive training in conducting and critical assessment in a professional and supportive atmosphere, the participants will have a great opportunity to immerse themselves deeply in the orchestral repertoire. Some 31 musicians from six countries - the USA, Austria, Korea, Australia, Brazil and Switzerland - have applied to be part of this year's festival.

A number of this festival's previous participants have gone on to take up important posts with  orchestras such as the Berkeley Symphony, El Paso Symphony Orchestra, the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra, the Santa Cruz Symphony Orchestra, the Kansas City Symphony, the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and others. Former participants in this workshop have also gained places on some of the world's most prestigious international music courses including the Juilliard School, the Curtis Institute of Music, the Peabody Institute, Rice University, the University of Illinois, the University of Michigan and many more.
