TOMÁŠ KAČO, piano
In May the Congress Centre welcomes an exceptional figure - the talented pianist, arranger, composer and vocalist Tomáš Kačo, one of the few contemporary Czech artists to have made a name for himself in Hollywood. His incredible journey from poverty to recognition and fame was by no means easy, and it was only his determination, hard work and talent that led this remarkable artist to make his dream come true.
Tomáš Kačo, one of 12 siblings, was first introduced to the piano at the age of five, but began his academic musical education only six years later. This was followed by studies at the Janáček Conservatoire in Ostrava and then at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. After winning a young composers' competition, Kačo took up an offer to go to the US where he was accepted into the prestigious Berklee College of Music, and it was there that he began to reflect more deeply on his ethnic origin, which he projects in his work. He has given many recitals in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Israel, Washington and Los Angeles. Tomáš Kačo's concert here in Zlín mainly features his own work from the album My Home, which came out last year, but there will also be a certain amount of improvisation.
