In our first Subscription Series C concert entitled Parlo d´amor (I Speak of Love) the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra accompanies the mezzo-soprano Markéta Cukrová who, without exaggeration, is a unique phenomenon in Czech vocal music. An exceptional singer and holder of innumerable artistic awards of many kinds, she excels in her versatility, highly-honed technique and extraordinary sense of musical style and expression, and is therefore much sought-after for singing roles dating from the Middle Ages to the present day, making frequent guest appearances with acclaimed Czech and European performing ensembles. Hailing from Prague, she works frequently with Czech TV and Czech Radio, has recorded for Polish, French and Italian radio, and performs as a soloist throughout Europe as well as in Japan, Russia, Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia and the USA.
Our October evening concert of music by Mozart and Rossini at the Congress Centre is thus a great opportunity to enjoy Markéta Cukrová's remarkable singing prowess and natural charm. The first half comprises overtures and selected arias from Mozart's operas the Marriage of Figaro and La Clemenza di Tito, and then we hear a selection of well-known pieces by the Italian composer and bon vivant Gioachino Rossini.
The concert, which promises to be an exceptional cultural experience, is conducted by Tomáš Brauner.
