Music is a fascinating world full of diverse musical genres and styles, but no less diverse is the realm of what is sometimes called “serious” or “art music” itself, often inaccurately referred to as "classical" music. This covers a vast period of musical creation, centuries of hard work by thousands of composers of various nationalities who together have produced a myriad of compositions of all kinds and types. Classical music reflects not only the historical trends of its time, but also the personal experiences of its creators, from their own inner feelings and ideas to major historical or social events. As a result, classical music has a universal appeal that transcends time periods and so is always relevant and able to reach every listener, regardless of their cultural or personal background.

Tonight’s concert of "UNserious Classics" presents an unconventional kaleidoscope of classical music letting its hair down in offbeat, humorous and playful ways that can open doors to classical music even for listeners for whom the phrase "serious music" conjures up the feeling of something incomprehensible, outdated and archaic that belongs in a museum. We’ll show that classical music is the universal language of humanity, a language to which everyone can relate, regardless of their musical preferences or previous experience, even those who claim not to understand "classical music". Taking us through the magic of this colourful programme are the popular actor, director, musician and scriptwriter Jan Budař, vocalists Lada Bočková and Monika Jägerová, and the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra and its soloists, with popular conductor Leoš Svárovský on the podium.

The concert takes place in association with the Český Krumlov International Music Festival.
