La Traviata, the heart-rending drama of an ill-fated love affair and one of today’s most frequently performed world operas, was written by Giuseppe Verdi to a libretto based on Alexandre Dumas the younger‘s novel La Dame aux Camélias. This gripping tale about the famed Parisian courtesan was not received favourably at its premiere in Venice in 1853 however, only later winning the recognition it has since gone on to enjoy.
Our concert version in Zlín featuring prominent international artistes is conducted by Walter Attanasi, principal guest conductor of the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic. He has worked with some of the world's leading opera houses including Milan's La Scala, the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, the Arena di Verona, Florence's Teatro Comunale, Spoleto's Festival dei Due Mondi, Vienna's Musikverein and Konzerthaus, the Hamburg Staatsoper, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the Prague National Opera, the Budapest Opera, and Stockholm's Royal Opera House, not to mention performances in Japan too.
The main character Violetta Valéry is performed by the young Spanish soprano Minerva Moliner Ferrer, winner of three international singing competition prizes, who also performed in a recording of The Cunning Little Vixen for the BBC with Kent Nagano. The extraordinary talent of the American mezzo-soprano Nicole Piccolomini can currently be seen in her performances in Wagner‘s Das Rheingold at the Leipzig Opera. Luciano Ganci was born in Rome. His most frequently performed roles are from operas by Puccini and Verdi, and he appeared in Zlín recently singing the part of Rodolfo in La Boheme. The talent of the Georgian baritone George Andguladzehas taken him to Italy, where he has been performing in Parma and Busseto.
Our concert version of the opera also features the Choir of the National Theatre in Brno, directed by Josef Pančík.
