TRIO PONK original work

TRIO PONK:
MICHAL KRYSTÝNEK, vocals, violin
EDUARD TOMAŠTÍK, cimbalom
PAVEL RAJMIC, double bass

In early February 2021 the Congress Centre welcomes Trio Ponk, a band formed a few years ago in Brno who have now made their name both in this country and abroad. The three are Michal Krystýnek on violin and vocals, Eduard Tomaštík on cimbalom, and Pavel Rajmic on double bass, and they draw their inspiration mainly from their enthusiasm for Moravian and Slovak folk music which is a fundamental influence in their own work. Instead of the traditional interpretation of folk music, however, they blend their unorthodox approach with other styles such as rock, jazz and blues, developing an appealing fusion which could be called "post-folklore". Indeed, Postfolklore is the name of their debut album issued in 2015, which put them in the musical limelight both here and abroad, resulting in many favourable reviews and air time for their work on, for example, Rádio 1, Radio Wave, Proglas radio, Germany's Dlf Kultur, Hungary's Bartók Rádió and also on several US radios. The album in fact won the coveted Anděl award the same year in the World Music category.

The concert features the band's own work which shows that Moravian folk music, far from being stuck in a time warp, is still living and breathing in our culture.
